Workplace Environment

The meaning of workplace environment in this context, relates to the heating, lighting and ventilation requirements.

Employers have a duty to provide a comfortable work environment for their employees. Of course the controls and facilities provided will vary depending upon the location where the work is carried out i.e. internally, externally, in ambient hot temperatures e.g. Steel mill, or cooler temperatures such as. refrigeration.

Accordingly, adequate natural ventilation or forced Local Exhaust Ventaliation (LEV) must be available as well as provisions for correct lighting (lux) levels. The extent of both will depend upon the intricacy and type of work undertaken.
