Portable Electric Office Equipment

The Electricity at Work Regulations is the governing legislation where electricity at work is concerned and offers key information for those working on or near electricity.

With regards to portable electrical equipment as used in the office environment, there is the need to consider its safety. Electricity is also a source of ignition (heat) and therefore must be taken into account when carrying out Fire / Work Equipment Risk Assessments.

Portable electrical equipment (lead and plug which can be moved around) should be entered into a routine user inspection and electrical maintenance check regime, usually referred to as PAT Testing - Portable Appliance Test. All appliances should be included - kettles , toasters etc as well as PCs, copiers and extension leads for example.
