The Regulatory Reform (Fire Order) Regulations, effective from 1st October 2006, sees an end to the previous "Fire Certificate" regime, and places the responsibility for fire safety with the responsible person, and in many instances this will be the employer.
The regulations state the responsible person must "appoint one or more competent persons to assist....."
These persons could be Fire Wardens or Fire Marshalls but importantly, must be competent and capable in order to carry out their duties.
Generally they will need to have undertaken the appropriate fire safety training.
