Portable Ladders and Step Ladders

On average 14 people die each year as a result of falling from a leaning ladder or step ladder.

The Work at Height Regulations state that a ladder should be used only when all other safer alternatives for work at height have been ruled out.

The risk assessment must indicate the task is low risk and of short duration. A ladder must never be used as a work platform. The ladder must be secured with a provision available for a hand hold.

The user is to be competent and the equipment must be in good serviceable order.
