Excavations

Construction sites by their very nature are high risk areas. In the early stages of building where a number of excavations may be on site, which must be of sound construction and not susceptible to collapse or causation of personal injury by being buried or trapped. Consideration must also be given to underground / overhead cables or similar.

Excavations should be planned by a competent person with safe systems of work which should take into account not only the day site activities but also the potential for out of hour's activity through unauthorised access. Pedestrian, plant, and vehicular safeguards will need to be put in place. There may well be an implication to the Construction (Design) Management Regulations in terms of cooperation with the Planning Supervisor (Coordinator)

Appropriate records will need to be maintained.
